Beautiful, vintage Longines Conquest Ultronic from 1973, “Jumbo” size! Amazing condition, with a perfect plexiglass, almost no scratches or wear on the gold-plated surfaces, and flawlessly working movement! Freshly serviced, and the battery was also replaced! Very accurate and precise, thanks to its outstanding mechanism vibrating at 300 Hz (300 times per second). What is interesting and distinctive about this Longines Caliber 6312 movement, is that although it is a battery-powered movement, it is not running on quartz crystal! This mechanism was engineered to work with the help of a so-called “tuning fork”. A tuning fork movement uses a small electrically powered tuning fork that vibrates very quickly. This vibration drives the hands smoothly, so the second hand sweeps continuously (as an automatic watch does), instead of ticking from one second to the next. You can also hear a soft humming sound instead of the usual ticking of a mechanical watch. At the time, manufacturing big “man-sized” watches was very rare, so these jumbo sizes (37 mm and up), are especially sought after by collectors. The watch has a 2-position crown: the first position switches the date and day indicators (day-date window at 3 o’clock), and the second position adjusts the time. Original, signed crown, and original Longines calibre movement (based on ESA 9162). Fitted with a new, brown vintage-style leather strap, with gold-plated pin buckle.
