This lot features a silver guilder (gulden) from 1791, struck in Utrecht for the province of Utrecht. This type of coin, known as the Generaliteitsgulden, was a primary silver denomination during the final years of the Dutch Republic. The iconic imagery of the Dutch Maiden makes this one of the most sought-after types for collectors of Dutch provincial silver.

Obverse: The crowned coat of arms of the United Provinces (a rampant lion with a sword and a bundle of arrows). The value 1 - G is displayed on either side of the shield. Legend: MO ARG ORD FOED BELG TRAI (Silver money of the States of the United Netherlands Provinces of Utrecht).
Reverse: The Dutch Maiden standing, leaning her left elbow on a Bible placed on a column. In her right hand, she holds a spear topped with a hat of liberty. The date 1791 is located in the exergue. Legend: HAC NITIMVR HANC TVEMVR (On her we lean, her we protect).

Mint Master: Jan Samuel van Naamen (1781-1794), identified by the mintmark of the Utrecht city coat of arms.
Specifications: Minted in silver with a standard weight of approximately 10.60 grams and a diameter of about 31 mm. This issue features a cabled edge.
