A finely carved wooden ancestor figure (kiteki) from the Bembe (Babembe) people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The figure is depicted in a traditional squatting posture on a small integral base. It features classic Bembe stylistic traits, including a prominent wedge-shaped beard, almond-shaped eyes inlaid with contrasting material, and an elongated torso. The surface shows extensive signs of age, including a deep, dark brown patina from ritual handling and age-related wear, alongside minor expected desiccation cracks consistent with its age and origin.
