匕首 四把奥斯曼匕首 - 土耳其 - 1950-1960

Collection of Four Ottoman / Balkan Daggers — 20th Century A highly decorative collection of four antique daggers from the Ottoman / Balkan cultural sphere, The group shows a fascinating variety of regional forms, materials and decorative techniques and makes an attractive ensemble for collectors of Ottoman arms, Balkan ethnographic objects and historic decorative weapons. The highlight of the collection is the impressive large curved jambiya-type dagger measuring approximately 33 cm, complete with its highly decorative sheath. The sheath is covered in warm reddish leather and richly mounted with elaborate openwork filigree metal decoration. The upper and lower fittings display dense scrolling and floral ornament, while the curved terminal is finished with additional pierced and filigree work. The substantial light-coloured grip, probably horn or bone-type material, is decorated with metal studs and applied circular ornaments. This is the most visually striking piece in the collection and is particularly attractive for its combination of leather, metalwork, filigree decoration and traditional curved form. The group further includes: * One dagger measuring approximately 29 cm, with a strongly curved engraved metal sheath and a distinctive broad hilt. The surface is extensively decorated with engraved scrolling and geometric ornament. * Two further daggers measuring approximately 28 cm each, both showing characteristic regional forms and decorative engraved metalwork. One retains ornamental decoration to the blade as well as a richly worked sheath and hilt. Together, the four pieces illustrate the great variety of dagger production found throughout the Ottoman Empire and the Balkans during the 19th century. Such objects were often both functional personal objects and important elements of traditional dress, status and regional identity.
