Otagaki Rengetsu (January 8, 1791 – December 10, 1875) was a Buddhist nun active during the late Edo period who also distinguished herself as a *waka* poet and ceramic artist. She was affectionately known by names such as "Ren," "Bosatsu" (Bodhisattva), and "Intoku."
Her ceramic works, featuring *waka* poetry inscribed with her fingernail, are known as "Rengetsu-yaki" and are highly acclaimed—so much so that they have become popular souvenirs from Kyoto.
These are truly beautiful pieces with a profound, elegant charm.
The item is in good condition.
This *kensui* (waste-water bowl for the tea ceremony) features a poem by Otagaki Rengetsu.
