The damage must be reported to your local post office within 7 days of delivery, and promptly to us and Catawiki support. 【Product details】 This elegant bamboo vase was created by Ikeda Hyoa II (2代目池田瓢阿, 1914–2003), one of Japan's most respected bamboo craftsmen of the Showa period. Born in Osaka as the son of the first-generation Hyōa, he devoted his life to bamboo artistry and tea ceremony utensils, combining refined craftsmanship with practicality. In 1933 he succeeded to the name Hyōa II and later studied under the renowned tea master and connoisseur Masuda Don’ō. In 1953 he established the Chikurakukai bamboo arts school and, from 1975 onward, also explored ceramics alongside his bamboo work. The vase is modelled after a design favoured by Matsudaira Harusato (松平治郷, 1751–1818), better known by his tea name Fumai (不昧). The seventh lord of the Matsue Domain in present-day Shimane Prefecture, Fumai is regarded as one of the greatest tea masters of the Edo period. Objects described as "Fumai-gonomi" or "Fumai-koe" follow designs personally selected, commissioned, or favoured by him and are highly appreciated within tea ceremony culture. Executed in the form of a bamboo node, the vase displays the refined simplicity and natural beauty that characterise traditional tea ceremony aesthetics. The finely woven bamboo structure highlights the remarkable skill required to create such a balanced and functional object. A lacquered bamboo cylinder forms the water container within, while the metal fitting adds an understated decorative accent. The artist's signature plaque is attached to the side. The side bears the artist's signature. The original wooden storage box is inscribed with the title, signature, and seal. There are signs of age-related wear, minor blemishes, and patina to the metal fitting. The vase remains in good to very good vintage condition. The wooden box shows slight staining.
