As peaceful times arrived, this practice evolved, and the armour became a spiritual guardian believed to ward off evil energies and invite good fortune into the household. Unlike modern overseas replicas, this is an authentic vintage suit of armour crafted by traditional artisans in Japan, meticulously structured as a highly complete, wearable set for an adult male. It is a 20th-century (Showa period) piece made in the traditional manner - not an Edo-period antique. CRAFTSMANSHIP & TERMINOLOGY The lacquered finish forms a striking contrast with the odoshi (the lacing that binds the armour plates). The helmet features radiating ribbed decorations that exude formal dignity, accompanied by an imposing menpo (an armoured facial mask with a moustache, designed to intimidate enemies). Throughout the components, the seamless integration of solid plates, intricate chainmail and elegant brocade textiles showcases a profound level of craftsmanship.
