Russian Imperial Silver Thimble, 84 Standard, “R.B.” Monogram, c. 1900 An attractive Russian Imperial silver thimble, made of 84 zolotnik silver (875/1000) and dating from approximately 1900–1908. The thimble has a finely worked dimpled body with decorative relief ornamentation around the shoulder and lower rim. The combination of the traditional sewing-thimble form and refined silverwork makes this a charming example of Russian Imperial period craftsmanship. The side of the thimble bears an elegant engraved “R.B.” monogram within an ornamental cartouche. This is most likely a personal or presentation monogram and adds an individual historical character to the piece. The object bears a Russian Imperial kokoshnik-type silver hallmark with the fineness mark “84”, corresponding to 875/1000 silver. An interesting possibility is a connection with the Vilna/Vilnius silversmith R. B.
