Limoges – Fine Porcelain Rococo Oyster Plate – Charles Martin & P.A.W. Philippona, 's-Gravenhage – ca. 1900–1920
An exquisite French Limoges porcelain oyster plate (oesterbord) in the Rococo style, manufactured in France and retailed in the Netherlands during the Belle Époque era (circa 1900–1920).
This beautifully sculpted plate features six shell-shaped compartments for oysters surrounding a central well for lemon or sauce. The rim and scrollwork details are richly hand-decorated with heavy 24kt gilt accents (rocailles) over a molded porcelain body.
Double Factory & Retailer Markings (Unusual Provenance):
Manufacturer's Mark: Underglaze green triangular mark LIMOGES FRANCE DEPOSE with the CM monogram, used by Charles Martin / Martin Frères in Limoges.
Retailer's Mark: Overglaze green script P.A.W. Philippona / 'S-GRAVENHAGE, confirming it was imported for and sold by the prestigious luxury purveyor P.A.W. Philippona in The Hague, famous for supplying high-end porcelain and glassware to Dutch aristocracy and high society.
Condition:
In excellent antique condition.
No chips, no cracks, no hairlines, and no restorations.
The gilding is remarkably well-preserved with minimal light wear consistent with age (please refer to high-resolution photos for full detail).
