Set of 3 Vintage Porcelain Pierrot Half Dolls – Art Deco 1920s/30s – Pincushion Dolls Charming and unusual collection of three antique/vintage porcelain Pierrot half dolls, including two loose porcelain figures and one retaining its original-style period pincushion costume. These characterful monochrome figures are typical of the fascination with Pierrot imagery during the Art Deco era and make a particularly attractive group when displayed together. 1. Pierrot Holding Fan – 6.5 cm An elegant Pierrot figure dressed in the classic black-and-white costume, beautifully posed with one hand resting on the hip and the other holding a ruffled fan beside the face. He has a white pointed cap, black hair, delicately hand-painted facial features with rosy cheeks, a ruffled collar and three black buttons down the front. The lower porcelain base retains its original sewing holes, designed for attaching the figure to a fabric skirt, pincushion, brush or other decorative accessory. An impressed mould/model number is visible on the reverse, although the maker is currently unidentified. Height: approx. 6.5 cm 2. Pierrot Head with Large Ruff – 5 cm A particularly expressive little Pierrot with a finely painted pale face, blue-grey eyes, delicate red lips and a close-fitting black cap. The head is surrounded by a dramatic moulded pleated white ruff collar, outlined with hand-painted black decoration. The upward-looking expression gives this example considerable character. The hollow lower section has original sewing holes around the base, showing that it was intended to be incorporated into a fabric body, pincushion, powder puff, brush or similar decorative accessory. No maker’s mark is visible. Height: approx. 5 cm 3. Miniature Pierrot Pincushion Doll with Original Costume – 8 cm Overall A lovely miniature Pierrot-style figure with short black hair, delicately hand-painted facial features and a large moulded white pleated collar. The figure is charmingly posed with both arms raised and the hands resting against the sides of the face. Unlike the other two figures, this example retains its old pale champagne/pink silk or rayon costume, with gathered pincushion skirt and long ribbon ties. The original-looking textile has deliberately been left untouched. Porcelain figure: approx. 4 cm Overall height including costume: approx. 8 cm Condition The porcelain figures are in very good antique/vintage condition overall, with no obvious chips, cracks or repairs visible. There is some minor age-related wear to the painted decoration, particularly the black detailing on the 6.5 cm Pierrot, together with occasional marks consistent with age. The original textile costume on the smallest Pierrot shows considerable age-related wear, including staining, small holes, fraying and deterioration to the ribbons. It has deliberately been left in its existing condition as it appears to be the original period costume and is an important part of the character and history of the piece.
