Biography
Dan Ranshu (1872-1935)
Meiji 5 (1872)-Showa 10 (1935).
Born in Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture. A Japanese-style painter active mainly from the late Meiji to Taisho period. His given name was Isaku, his courtesy name was Shikei, and he also used the art name Chisho. Originally surnamed Hamakawa, he later adopted the Dan surname. His common name was Hideo, later changed to Hideo.
He studied under Tada Ranko and Yoshinaga Ranke before moving to Tokyo to study under Kawabata Gyokusho. He received numerous awards at exhibitions and served as a committee member and judge of the Japan Art Association. He also taught at the Kawabata Art School and later became its adviser.
