挂轴:花鸟山水画 岡本秋暉 Okamoto Shūki - 骨, 真丝 - 日本 - Edo Period (1600-1868)
Okamoto Shūki (1807-1862) was an Edo period painter renowned for his richly ornate kachōga (flower-and-bird paintings), particularly excelling in depictions of peacocks. Born as the second son of the Ishiguro family, known for their metal engraving, Shūki studied painting under Ōnishi Keisai of the Nanpin school and began his career as an artist in his twenties.
Additionally, he served as a samurai for the Odawara domain's Ōkubo family, diligently fulfilling his duties as a patrol officer at the domain's Edo residence while energetically continuing his artistic endeavors. During this period, he formed friendships with contemporaries such as Watanabe Kazan and Tsubaki Chinzan.
Shūki's specialty was bird illustrations. He was so dedicated to perfecting his bird depictions that he frequently visited a bird shop for sketching practice. His exceptional technique captured the delicate beauty of feathers with vibrant, transparent colors, enchanting the people of Edo.
