Marufuku is the predecessor of Nintendo. Marufuku Co., Ltd. was established in Kyoto in November 1947 as a manufacturer and seller of playing cards and karuta. Later, the company changed its name to Marufuku Karuta Sales Co., Ltd. in 1949, Nintendo Karuta Co., Ltd. in 1950, Nintendo Playing Card Co., Ltd. in 1951, and became Nintendo Co., Ltd. in 1963. Therefore, this item was manufactured between 1947 and 1951 when the company name Marufuku was used. Hyakunin Isshu is a collection of 100 waka poems by 100 poets. The cards show slight age-related stains. All 200 cards are present and stored in a dedicated wooden box.
