A very interesting two-piece collection of British regimental militaria, comprising items relating to two historic British Army regiments.
1. 9th (Queen’s Royal) Lancers presentation case – dated 1895
An attractive late Victorian metal case, extensively hand engraved with geometric and basket-weave decoration.
The front features a crowned 9th Lancers regimental device, with crossed lances and the numeral 9.
The reverse bears the beautifully engraved presentation inscription:
“FROM SAM TO JACK 1895”
The case opens on a full-length hinged side and retains considerable character and patina internally. The precise identities of “Sam” and “Jack” are unknown.
The 9th Lancers had a distinguished Victorian military history, including service in Afghanistan, with this piece dating to the period between the Second Anglo-Afghan War and the regiment’s later service in the Second Boer War.
2. Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders regimental dish
A lightweight brass-coloured metal dish displaying the finely engraved badge of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, including the crowned thistle, regimental title and the historic “EGYPT” battle honour with Sphinx.
The regimental device is also visible on the underside.
The dish retains what appears to be an aged protective lacquered finish, with areas of wear and loss. The exact metal composition has not been tested.
Approximately 15 cm diameter.
Both pieces show surface marks, patina and wear consistent with age and use. Please examine the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
An attractive pair of genuine period-style British regimental collectables representing two celebrated historic regiments.
