The work depicts a traditional Japanese rural landscape with historic thatched-roof buildings in a winter setting. The painting is signed and dated by the artist.

Brian Williams is an American-born artist who moved permanently to Japan in 1972 and became internationally known for his sensitive depictions of Japanese landscapes, traditional architecture and disappearing rural environments.
His works have been exhibited extensively in Japan and are held in institutional collections.

The artwork retains an original artist information card from Brian Williams’ Kyoto studio, identifying him as working with watercolors and etchings in Kamigamo, Kyoto.

A beautiful example from the artist’s early Japanese period.

Condition:
Good vintage condition. The artwork is presented in its original frame. Minor signs of age to the frame, consistent with age. The painting itself appears well preserved.
