An Exceptionally Rare Armenian Gold Issue
Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia – King Levon I (1198–1219 AD)
Gold Half Takhekan (20 mm, 2.43 g ).
Obverse: King Levon I enthroned facing, holding a cross in his right hand and a branch in his left.
Reverse: Patriarchal cross flanked by two lions with their heads turned backward.
An exceptional example of one of the rarest gold issues of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia, preserved in excellent condition with an attractive original gold tone, sharp details, and remarkable eye appeal.
This coin is highly sought after by collectors of medieval Armenian and gold coinage and is seldom encountered on the market or at international auctions.
Extremely Rare.
Acquired in 2025 from Demeter Coins Falk Zünkler in Germany.
Provenance: The piece was formerly part of a private collection in Spain, having been acquired in 1987 from an antiquities dealer or gallery.
