古希腊,希腊化时代 金 古希腊希腊化时期金质服饰饰件,附稀有珠饰贴花 – 5件 – 约公元前3世纪至公元前1世纪

Ancient Greek Hellenistic Gold Garment Ornaments – 5 Pieces – ca. 3rd to 1st Century BCE An exceptional and highly evocative group of five ancient Greek Hellenistic gold garment ornaments, dating approximately from the 3rd century BCE to the 1st century BCE. These delicate ornaments were fashioned from thin sheets of gold and represent a fascinating aspect of personal adornment in the ancient Greek and Hellenistic world. Such precious appliqués were designed to be attached to garments, ceremonial textiles, or other forms of luxurious dress, transforming fabric into a shimmering display of wealth, refinement, and social distinction. The centerpiece of this group is an impressive circular convex ornament with a finely worked beaded border, created using the ancient repoussé technique. Its raised central form and rhythmic perimeter of rounded bosses give the ornament a remarkable sculptural presence despite the extraordinary delicacy of the gold sheet from which it was fashioned. The group also includes a smaller convex gold appliqué with attachment perforations, a miniature leaf- or almond-shaped ornament, a circular ornament decorated with concentric rings, and a further small domed element. Together, the five pieces create an attractive and varied ensemble illustrating different approaches to Hellenistic goldworking. The surviving perforations are particularly significant, as they reveal the original practical function of these precious objects. Rather than being conventional jewelry in the modern sense, these ornaments were intended to be sewn or otherwise attached to garments, allowing the gold surfaces to catch and reflect light as the wearer moved. The extremely thin hammered sheets, subtle irregularities, ancient surfaces, and individually worked decorative details give each ornament its own character. They are compelling survivals of ancient craftsmanship and provide a tangible connection with the luxury, aesthetics, and sophisticated metalworking traditions of the Hellenistic Mediterranean world. Beyond their archaeological and historical significance, these ancient gold ornaments also possess considerable decorative appeal. Their elegant forms and remarkable antiquity may be particularly attractive to collectors interested in ancient jewelry and personal adornment. Individual elements could potentially be displayed or professionally mounted as pendants or wearable jewelry, provided that any such adaptation is carried out sensitively and without altering or damaging the ancient objects. The timeless design of authentic ancient gold ornaments continues to inspire both contemporary high jewellery and the costume design of internationally acclaimed historical and mythological films (the Odyssey for example). Comparable archaeological gold elements have recently gained worldwide attention, underlining the lasting appeal of genuine ancient craftsmanship. Culture: Ancient Greek, Hellenistic Date: ca. 3rd century BCE to 1st century BCE Gold purity: Analysis of the original group indicated a range approximately 12K to 22K+ gold, with most ornaments around 19K-22K, according to the analysis of the original group Technique: Hammered gold sheet, including repoussé decoration Number of objects: 5 Size of the largest one 2-2.2cm Weight: 1.3gr Condition: Ancient objects with age-related wear, minor deformation, surface irregularities, and other signs consistent with their considerable antiquity. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description and condition report. Provenance: From an original group of Greek Hellenistic gold garment ornaments formerly acquired through a renowned U.S. auction house specializing in antiquities, with documented American collection history. Full provenance details and supporting documentation accompany the objects as recorded in the original documentation. Catawiki disclaimer: This object has been dated based on style by the seller .
