Victorian toleware coal scuttle, dating from the late 19th century, circa 1870–1890. Made of black lacquered metal with gilt ornamental decoration and a hand-painted hunting dog in a landscape on the sloping lid. Features original-style decorative metal fittings, hinged lid and carrying handles. The interior shows oxidation and the exterior has natural wear, scratches and patina consistent with age. Dimensions: approx. 54 × 26 cm. A distinctive 19th-century fireplace accessory with an attractive hunting theme.
