Galeus nipponensis — A Shark from the Silent Depths This exceptionally intriguing Galeus nipponensis, the Broadfin Sawtail Catshark, has been preserved as a transparent specimen, revealing a hidden architecture normally concealed beneath the skin. Suspended in crystal-clear liquid, its elongated body curves elegantly through the glass. The delicate vertebral column runs almost like a thread along the body, while the translucent head, fins and tail reveal subtle layers of blue, violet and smoky tones under the light. Look closely and the mystery becomes even deeper - the elongated snout, intricate skull, fine fin structures and distinctive saw-like structures along the caudal region emerge from the transparency. A fascinating deep-water shark from the Northwest Pacific, this species is associated with waters around Japan and Taiwan and is rarely encountered outside scientific or specialist collections. Presented vertically in a glass display, the specimen almost appears to be swimming through a frozen column of the deep ocean.
