Constance, daughter of Roger II, provided the dynastic claim, while Henry united Sicily with his wider imperial ambitions. Their reign marked the transfer from Norman to Hohenstaufen rule and the birth of their son Frederick II, who would later become one of medieval Europe’s most powerful rulers.
