This lot features a rare silver Half Rider (1/2 Ducaton) from 1774, struck for the province of Utrecht. The Half Rider is a highly collectible denomination, prized for its beautiful design which is identical to the full Ducaton but in a more compact size.
Obverse: An armored knight with a sash on a horse galloping to the right. The knight holds a raised sword in his right hand. Below the horse is the crowned provincial coat of arms of Utrecht. Legend: MO NO ARG PRO CON FOE BELG TRAI.
Reverse: The crowned Generaliteitswapen (arms of the United Provinces), supported by two lions. The date 1774 is displayed at the bottom within a cartouche. Legend: CONCORDIA RES PARVAE CRESCUNT.
Mint Master: Johan Casper Novisadi (1766-1780), indicated by the rosette mintmark.
