Item Description This lot brings together two distinctive pieces of Japanese craftsmanship: a Kutani ware bottle vase by Yoshita Minori (吉田美統 Yoshita Minori, b. 1932) of Kinzangama kiln, and a hand-carved Kamakura-bori lacquer tray made by a skilled home craftsperson known by the artistic name "Sachi." The Kutani vase is a bottle-shaped (tokkuri-gata) porcelain piece finished in a warm orange-red ground, decorated with a gold brocade bellflower motif (kinrande kikyō-mon) rendered in fine gold enamel. It comes with its original wooden storage box (tomobako) and an accompanying paper tag (shiori), and remains unused, having been kept in long-term family storage prior to sale. The accompanying decorative tray, named "Sachi" (meaning happiness and good fortune), is a work of Kamakura-bori carved lacquerware. This beautiful Kamakura-bori decorative tray was created by Sachiko, who taught home economics for 40 years and was highly skilled in traditional crafts. Approximately 30 years ago, upon receiving her official Kamakura-bori certificate (menjō), she was formally bestowed the artistic name 「幸」 (Sachi), in accordance with the traditional practice of meimei and shūgō. The character was taken from her given name, Sachiko. 「幸」 means happiness, good fortune and blessings in Japanese, making this a particularly auspicious piece. The character 「幸」 is beautifully inscribed on the reverse, symbolizing a heartfelt wish for happiness and good fortune. Artist Profile Yoshita Minori (吉田美統 Yoshita Minori, b. 1932) is a Japanese ceramicist born in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture. He is the third-generation head of Kinzangama (Nishikiyama Kiln), founded in 1906 by his grandfather, Yoshita Shosaku, and renowned for its ornate aka-e kinrande style of Kutani ware, featuring intricate brocade-like red enamel and gold designs. Yoshita is especially celebrated for his mastery of yūri-kinsai, a decorative underglaze gold technique using cut gold leaf applied beneath a transparent glaze, developed in Kanazawa in the 1960s; he is widely regarded as its foremost master. His honours include the Takamatsu-no-Miya Memorial Prize at the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition (1992), the Japan Ceramic Society Award (1994/1995), and the Holder Award at the 47th Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition (2000). In 2001 he was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon and designated a Living National Treasure (Ningen Kokuhō) for the yūri-kinsai technique, and in 2023 he was named an Honorary Citizen of Komatsu City.
