The Canon FTb QL (1971) is a robust, all-mechanical 35mm SLR with TTL metering and Canon's Quick Loading system for fast, reliable film loading. It accepts both the FD lenses of its own era and the earlier FL series. Offered here with the Canon FL 50mm f/1.8 — the standard lens of the preceding generation, which mounts and shoots on the FTb but meters at working aperture rather than wide open. Important — please read carefully: The slow shutter speeds of 1/15 and below are sticky; 1/30 and faster work normally. The lens shows coating marks from past fungus. Please review the photos and consider this before bidding. Condition: Used — Good Pre-owned, heavy signs of use, or minor optical flaws Serial Number Please check the photo. Optical Condition Haze: Coating deterioration from past fungus on the FL 50mm f/1.8 — the fungus has been removed, but a haze-like mark remains on the coating. See photos. Fungus: Cleaned — no active fungus. Finder: Cleaned internally Functional The shutter fires and transports film — see the measured figures below. Speeds of 1/30 and faster work normally (1/53 at 1/60, 1/810 at 1/1000); the slow speeds of 1/15 and below are sticky, and the 1-second speed did not complete on our tester. The stop-down meter responds but reads bright: about +1.6 EV at EV12 and +3.0 EV at EV15. The FL 50mm f/1.8 focuses smoothly and the aperture blades are clean; it is an FL-mount lens and works on this body with stop-down metering. Light seals have been replaced and the viewfinder cleaned internally. Measured Performance We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured: - 1 s — measured: NG - 1/60 — measured 1/53 s (approx. 0.2 stop slow) - 1/1000 — measured 1/810 s (approx. 0.3 stop slow) - Light meter accuracy — EV12: 1.6 OVER / EV15: 3.0 OVER Negative film has enough latitude to absorb deviations of this size, but the figures are here so you can judge for yourself. Servicing This camera was serviced by us before listing: - Light seals (foam) replaced - Viewfinder cleaned internally Known Issues 1. The slow shutter speeds of 1/15 and below are sticky and do not run correctly — the 1-second speed failed on our tester. Speeds of 1/30 and faster work normally, so for everyday shooting the camera is usable. 2. Coating deterioration from past fungus on the lens (cleaned, marks remain) — expect reduced contrast against strong light. 3. The meter reads about 1.5 to 3 EV bright — use an external meter or set the film speed higher to compensate. Bundled Items Only what you can see in the pictures will be included in the package.
