**Title** **Kōyō (光陽) – Japanese Hanging Scroll "Mountain Village and Stream amid Clouds" – Suiboku Sansui – With Original Wooden Box** **Description** An authentic Japanese hanging scroll signed **Kōyō (光陽)**, depicting a tranquil mountain village surrounded by steep peaks, a flowing stream, and layers of drifting clouds and mist. Executed in monochrome ink (*suiboku-ga*), the work captures the quiet and mysterious atmosphere of a secluded mountain landscape. The composition presents traditional dwellings nestled deep within the valley, while a mountain stream winds through the rugged scenery. Above the village, imposing peaks emerge from an expansive sea of clouds (*unkai*), creating a dramatic contrast between the solid mountain forms and the soft, atmospheric mist. Skillful variations in ink tone create a strong sense of depth, with darker foreground elements gradually giving way to distant mountains veiled in clouds. The small village within the vast landscape expresses the traditional East Asian ideal of harmony between human life and the natural world. The work reflects the aesthetics of Japanese *sansui-ga* (landscape painting), combining mountains, water, mist, and rural architecture into a serene and contemplative composition. The painting bears the signature **Kōyō (光陽)** and is offered as an authentic work. It is accompanied by its original wooden storage box (*tomobako*). **Period** Shōwa period (20th century) **Dimensions** * Overall size including roller ends: approx. 59 × 185 cm * Painting size: approx. 41 × 105 cm **Materials** * Ink on paper * Traditional brocade mounting * Roller ends (*Jikusaki*): Resin **Condition** Overall in good condition with age-appropriate wear.
