A well-preserved antoninianus struck for the celebration of Rome's millennium in AD 248, commemorating the Ludi Saeculares (Secular Games) held under Philip I. These festivities marked the 1000th anniversary of the traditional founding of Rome and represent the last fully celebrated Roman Secular Games. The reverse depicting an antelope belongs to the famous millennium coinage series featuring animals associated with the spectacles and ceremonies of the festival. Reference: RIC IV-3, 21; Cohen 189.
