A pair of tea bowls (chawan) in Ki-Iraho (yellow Iraho) glaze with akae (red overglaze enamel) decoration by Takauchi Shugo 高内秀剛 (b. 1937), one of the most recognized contemporary Mashiko potters. Each bowl shows the characteristic warm, honey-toned Iraho glaze with a soft, crackled texture, accented by loose, calligraphic brushwork in red enamel with touches of green, evoking the free, painterly spirit typical of Takauchi's work. Both bowls are carved with the artist's signature near the foot and appear virtually unused. In 1972 he was first accepted into the Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition, and he has since been selected for numerous exhibitions including the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition and the Contemporary Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition. In 1980 he received the Cultural Arts Association Award at the Vallauris International Ceramics Biennial in France, and in 1989 he was awarded the Tochigi Prefecture Cultural Encouragement Award. He is a full member of the Japan Crafts Association and has held numerous solo exhibitions, including at Nihombashi Mitsukoshi and Osaka Takashimaya. 【Condition】 Excellent.
