Original 1980s “ON AIR” illuminated studio light box from Radio West, Alessandria, Italy. An authentic piece of Italian broadcasting history with genuine period construction and documented connection to Radio West, the independent radio station founded in Alessandria, Piedmont, in 1982. This is NOT a recent reproduction, decorative replica or modern LED light box. It is an original period ON AIR studio signal light, constructed with a black metal housing and a traditional internal lighting system using two lamp holders, exactly the type of illuminated indicator used in professional radio environments before today's LED signs became commonplace. An especially important feature is the original RADIO WEST label still attached to the rear of the metal housing, providing a direct and highly distinctive indication of the object's provenance. Radio West began broadcasting in Alessandria in 1982 and formed part of the vibrant independent Italian radio scene of the 1980s and 1990s. The station remained active until 1996. This light box dates from that historical broadcasting period and is estimated to be from the 1980s. The design is wonderfully simple and functional: a rectangular black metal case with a dark front panel carrying the large red ON AIR lettering. Once illuminated, the letters produce the intense red glow traditionally associated with a live radio or recording studio. Unlike today's mass-produced ON AIR decorative lamps, this example has the construction, materials, internal lamp system, age-related wear and provenance of an authentic broadcasting object. For safe contemporary use, the electrical supply has been carefully updated with a new cable, inline switch and European plug. This intervention allows the light box to be used safely while preserving its original housing, traditional lamp-holder system and vintage appearance. It is fully functional, as shown in the photographs. The rear has mounting holes allowing it to be hung on a wall, as intended for studio use. Its rectangular form also allows it to stand freely on a shelf, desk or console, making it an exceptional decorative light as well as a collectible historical object. Dimensions: 26 × 13 × 6 cm. The light box remains in good authentic vintage condition. It shows normal traces of age and former use, including minor wear to the black-painted metal housing and visible age-related wear and imperfections to the red lettering/front panel.
