Pair of Danish Royal Commemorative Porcelain Plates – Frederik IX & Margrethe II – 1972 A decorative pair of Danish commemorative porcelain plates relating to the change of monarch in Denmark in January 1972. The first plate commemorates King Frederik IX (1899–1972) and is decorated with a large royal star/insignia in dark blue and gold. Around the rim are the dates 11.3.1899 – 14.1.1972 together with the inscription “Frederik IX Rex.” The second plate is dedicated to Queen Margrethe II and bears the inscription “Margrethe II – Danmarks Dronning.” In the centre is her crowned monogram together with the royal motto: “Guds hjælp – Folkets kærlighed – Danmarks styrke” and the date 14 January 1972, the day Margrethe II became Queen of Denmark. Both plates have an elegant white porcelain ground with striking gold and dark blue decoration, making them an attractive pair of Danish royal memorabilia. They present beautifully together and would make a fine addition to a collection of Danish porcelain, royal commemorative items or Scandinavian design.
