A piece carrying over a thousand years of history. A Byzantine cast bronze finger ring with an oval bezel, engraved with a stylised vegetal scroll motif of symmetrical curving lines set within the oval field. Such balanced foliate ornament is characteristic of Byzantine decorative arts and jewellery, drawing on classical traditions. The shoulders are decorated with incised diagonal lines forming triangular panels that frame the central bezel, while the rounded hoop thickens gently toward the bezel. Rings of this type were typically cast in bronze and then refined with engraved decoration, and likely served both as a personal ornament and as a simple signet. The surface shows a natural green-brown patina with areas of mineral deposits and corrosion consistent with long burial. With an intact hoop, this is a genuine, wearable and displayable Byzantine antiquity.
