Type of jewel: Sapphire and diamond pendant with ruby accents. Condition: In well-preserved condition, especially given the age of the original watch section. Style: Art Deco, with an elongated geometric design, a prominent round blue centre stone and a finely detailed diamond surround. Era: Original watch section circa 1920; later converted into a pendant. Material: Platinum, with an 18K white gold suspension loop (touchstone tested). Extra information: The surviving upper section of an Art Deco watch has been given a new life as a pendant, with a synthetic sapphire set in place of the watch glass. The opening once intended for the winding crown remains visible at the side, a small reminder of its original purpose. Diamonds: Sixty-four eight-cut diamonds with an estimated total weight of approximately 0.60 ct (colour and clarity: G–I, VS–SI). Diamond weights, colour and clarity are approximate, as the stones were assessed in their settings and were not removed for grading or weighing. All diamonds in this pendant were individually tested with the Magilabs' EXA Natural Diamond Detector and identified as natural diamonds. Gemstones: One round blue synthetic sapphire, approximately 10.7 mm in diameter, with an estimated weight of approximately 5.10 ct. Thirty square-cut sapphires with an estimated total weight of approximately 1.20 ct. Four rubies with an estimated total weight of approximately 0.08 ct. The four rubies and thirty square-cut sapphires have not been tested to determine whether they are natural or synthetic, as this distinction makes hardly any difference to the value of this pendant. Gemstone weights are approximate, as the stones were assessed in their settings and were not removed for weighing.
