This striking sculpture is a traditional Balinese Winged Lion, known locally as a Singa Bersayap (or Singa Ambara). Hand-carved from wood and finished with classic polychrome pigments and gilt detailing, it serves as a powerful protective figure in Balinese culture. Look at the undamaged spikey hair locks. This Masterpiece weights 8Kg and measures 58x54x45cm and is specifically referred to as a Sendi Tugeh In traditional Balinese architecture, a Sendi is carved wooden base that supports the wooden pillars (tugeh) of an open-walled pavilion, known as a bale. The flat slot or area carved directly above the lion's back or tail section serves as the anchor point where the structural wooden column locks into place.
