Product Description This is a set of six vintage "Kokeshi" dolls—traditional Japanese wooden folk art dolls. Kokeshi dolls originated in the Tohoku region of Japan and are characterized by their cylindrical bodies, round heads, and unique patterns and facial expressions hand-painted by artisans. Because their shapes, expressions, and painted designs vary depending on the region of origin and the specific artisan, they are highly popular among collectors. These are traditional Tohoku crafts, and each doll bears the signature or seal of the artisan who created it. Kokeshi dolls have long been cherished as lucky charms symbolizing wishes for a child's healthy growth. The color red, in particular, is considered auspicious and is believed to ward off evil spirits; they are also sometimes regarded as talismans for fertility. Historically crafted by *kijishi* (woodturners) who prayed for children's health, these dolls possess a charming, heartwarming quality. This set includes six dolls varying in size, shape, and design. From pieces featuring floral patterns like chrysanthemums to those with simple, traditional motifs, each doll radiates its own unique character. Largest doll: Height 36 cm, Diameter 10 cm Smallest doll: Height 15 cm, Diameter 5 cm Total weight of the 6-doll set: 1,774 g Recommended for enthusiasts of Japanese folk art, traditional crafts, vintage dolls, and Kokeshi collecting.
