Finely decorated Japanese Satsuma-style vase of impressive size (approximately 31 cm high, weight 1.625 gram), richly embellished with hand-painted figures in a landscape setting. The shoulder is adorned with geometric panel decoration highlighted with extensive gilt work, while the vase features sculpted side handles in the form of stylized mythical beasts. The combination of detailed figural painting, raised enamels and generous gilding makes this an attractive display piece representative of the Japanese Satsuma tradition. The underside bears a red painted Japanese character mark.
Good overall condition with age-related wear consistent with use and age. Please see the photographs, which form part of the description.
