This post-war modernist set consists of two complementary heavy crystal pieces from the famous Belgian manufactory Val Saint Lambert, perfectly illustrating the revival of freeform organic design during the fifties and sixties. The lot includes an asymmetrical corolla-shaped vase in clear translucent crystal, as well as a large low centerpiece bowl or vide-poche in Mid-Century Modern style shaped freely by hand, featuring a superb swirling movement colored with a bright emerald green shade at its center. Both pieces play on the thickness of the solid crystal and the pulled lines of the material to catch the light and create intense shifting reflections.
The clear white vase measures a height of 18 cm and a maximum length at the top rim of approximately 20 cm for an individual weight of 1500 g. The underside of its base features the clearly visible official engraved Val Saint Lambert signature. The large unsigned green bowl measures a height of 7 cm with dimensions of 30 cm in length and 24 cm in width for an identical weight of 1500 g, bringing the combined total weight of this lot to 3000 g. The general condition of preservation of both pieces is good, as the crystal retains all its original brilliance and transparency. One simply notes usual signs of wear and light superficial age-related scratches on both items located mainly underneath the friction bases, which bears witness to their authenticity and age.
