⠀
A substantial Japanese suiseki viewing stone identified as an Ibigawa Yomogi Stone, presented on a custom-fitted wooden daiza.
⠀
The stone displays a powerful mountain-like formation composed of several rounded peaks, deep natural divisions and strongly weathered surfaces.
⠀
Its dark grey to greenish-grey colouring, natural cavities, fissures and rugged texture create the impression of a dramatic mountain range.
⠀
The front presents a particularly attractive landscape-like composition, with several distinct peaks rising above the wooden base.
⠀
The reddish-brown wooden daiza has been individually carved to follow the irregular underside of the stone and complements its natural form.
⠀
An old handwritten label attached to the underside of the daiza identifies the stone as “Ibigawa Yomogi Stone” (揖斐川 ヨモギ石).
⠀
Dimensions including wooden daiza:
Approx. W 23 × D 13 × H 16 cm
⠀
Weight of stone:
Approx. 3.86 kg
⠀
Total weight including wooden daiza:
Approx. 4.08 kg
⠀
Material:
Natural stone and wood
⠀
Condition:
Good vintage condition.
⠀
The stone naturally contains fissures, cavities, irregular surfaces, mineral variations and weathered areas. These are natural characteristics of the stone and form part of its suiseki appearance.
⠀
The wooden daiza shows age-related wear, scratches and traces from old labels or tape on the underside.
⠀
There is also a small crack in the wooden daiza. It is limited in size and does not appear to be a large or serious structural crack. Please refer carefully to the photographs for its exact condition.
⠀
Please examine all original photographs for the actual colour, texture, condition and details of the stone and daiza.
⠀
Suiseki is the traditional Japanese art of appreciating naturally formed stones whose shapes suggest mountains, islands, cliffs and other natural landscapes.
⠀
Ibigawa stones are traditionally associated with the Ibi River region of central Japan and have long been appreciated within Japanese suiseki culture.
