The principal figure wears a pointed headdress and holds a raised object. Celestial symbols appear above the figures, while a decorative crosshatched pattern forms the ground. The polished agate displays attractive golden-yellow translucency. The recessed engraving produces a clear impression, illustrated in the accompanying photographs. The composition incorporates motifs associated with ancient Persian and Near Eastern glyptic traditions. Important for Catawiki The Sasanian Empire dates from approximately AD 224–651. If your intaglio genuinely belongs to this period, it should be offered as an archaeological object with appropriate documentation and provenance. A Sasanian-style engraving, however, is not necessarily ancient.
