The necklace consists of multiple strands of polished, elongated tubular orange coral beads grouped into repeated sections. Larger, irregularly shaped, metal spacer beads articulate the sections. The spacers display raised circumferential ridges, circular depressions and darker patinated recesses. The assembly terminates in a suspension fitting supporting a large, round, pierced silver coin. The metal elements may not all share the same alloy or date of manufacture. The coral was checked by a jeweler. Coin: The clearer face bears the crowned quartered arms of Castile and León, with the Bourbon fleurs-de-lis in a central escutcheon and the Pillars of Hercules at the sides. This configuration is consistent with Spanish royal coinage under Charles III. On the other face, the owner reports traces of the royal portrait, surviving letters resembling “DEI” in the upper right, and a partially legible date beginning “17” at the bottom. The surviving traces are not sufficiently clear in the photographs to transcribe the full legend or date. A portrait-and-shield Spanish colonial silver coin of the Charles III period is a plausible identification, potentially from the later part of his reign. The denomination, mint, exact year and authenticity as an originally struck coin require in-hand numismatic examination. The coin is pierced near its edge for suspension. Its exceptionally thin present profile and markedly flattened portrait side may reflect severe wear. The overall arrangement could represent a later assembly incorporating an older coin. A precise geographic attribution remains open. The Spanish coin suggests connections with Spanish or Spanish-colonial circulation, but it is not by itself proof that the necklace was assembled in Latin America. Our hypothesis is Mexico. Confirmed by owner report: genuine coral beads and a silver coin; remaining metal components believed to contain some silver. Proposed identification: Spanish coin of Charles III, eighteenth century. Unresolved: exact coin type and date, coral species and treatment, spacer alloy, place and date of necklace assembly.
