Item Description This is a hand-finished display stand (kadai) made from a single slab of karin burl wood, kept in its natural free-form outline. The top surface shows swirling burl figure and concentric growth rings in warm amber to reddish-brown tones. The sides keep the organic, knobbly burl texture and have a smooth, lightly lustrous finish. Natural fissures and small voids run through the slab and add to its character. The flat underside carries an ink inscription. It reads "Presented" and credits Toshiba Ceramics Co., Ltd. as the giver. It also notes a 30th anniversary commemoration. The inscription points to its origin as a commemorative gift. The stand suits a bonsai, suiseki, incense burner, small sculpture or ceramic piece, and also works as a decorative object in its own right.
