A finely moulded Amlash terracotta pouring vessel featuring a globular body, a handle and displaying a missing sprout. The vessel has a cylindrical neck leading to a wide opening with a straight rim, which features two circular grooves and an applied handle bridging the neck and the body. Signs of wear such as chips along the rim and earthy encrustation to the surface, all consistent with age. The term ‘Amlash Culture’, has generally been used to designate material cultures excavated at Gilan, an archaeological site of ancient Iran, and refers to a group of Iron Age pottery and metal executions with a strong visual character. Most of the Amlash pottery vessels are believed to have been stylistically and typologically inspired by bronze wares of the same period.
