LEGO NINJAGO 2505 – Garmadon’s Dark Fortress (2011)

An extraordinary opportunity to acquire one of the most iconic and highly sought-after sets from the very beginning of LEGO NINJAGO. Originally released in 2011 by the renowned Danish toy manufacturer LEGO, Garmadon’s Dark Fortress belongs to the legendary first generation of NINJAGO sets, a collection that would lay the foundation for one of the most successful and enduring original themes in LEGO history. Now fifteen years after its release, this remarkable fortress has become a particularly desirable piece of NINJAGO history, especially among collectors searching for original first-year releases with their contents still factory sealed.

When LEGO introduced NINJAGO in 2011, few could have predicted the enormous worldwide success the theme would achieve. What began as an imaginative universe of elemental ninjas, ancient weapons and powerful villains evolved into a global phenomenon, supported by animated television series, films and countless LEGO releases. Today, NINJAGO enjoys an exceptionally dedicated international fanbase, and the earliest sets hold a special place among enthusiasts. For serious collectors, these original 2011 releases represent the very beginning of the NINJAGO legacy, making them especially appealing pieces of LEGO history.

Garmadon’s Dark Fortress is widely regarded as one of the standout villain-themed playsets from NINJAGO’s inaugural year. Featuring 484 pieces and six minifigures, this imposing fortress captures the mysterious atmosphere of Lord Garmadon’s dark stronghold. Its distinctive architecture, dramatic black-and-purple colour scheme and memorable selection of characters make it instantly recognisable to enthusiasts of the original NINJAGO storyline. As one of the larger and more elaborate villain-focused sets from the theme’s earliest period, it represents an important chapter in the conflict between the heroic ninjas and their formidable enemies.

What makes this set particularly interesting today is its connection to the very first generation of NINJAGO. While LEGO continues to release new NINJAGO models, these original designs have never lost their nostalgic appeal. Early sets such as Garmadon’s Dark Fortress are increasingly challenging to find in complete, well-preserved condition, particularly with their original packaging and untouched contents. Many examples have been assembled, played with or dismantled over the years, while individual minifigures and specialised elements have become desirable among collectors. For enthusiasts building a comprehensive collection of the original NINJAGO era, this fortress is undoubtedly one of the more distinctive and appealing releases to acquire.

What makes this particular example especially remarkable is its exceptional state of preservation. The original box is in excellent overall condition, showing only minimal shelf wear around the edges. One side of the back has been slightly compressed, resulting in a light crease. The original box seals have been opened, but all contents remain fully factory sealed, complete and entirely unused. Both original instruction booklets are included. Finding a first-year NINJAGO set with its original contents still untouched after fifteen years is particularly appealing to collectors who value authenticity and preservation.

For dedicated NINJAGO enthusiasts, the earliest releases represent something truly special. They capture the original visual identity, characters and atmosphere that introduced millions of fans to the world of Spinjitzu. Garmadon’s Dark Fortress stands among the memorable collector’s pieces from this formative period, combining an iconic villain, distinctive architecture and the unmistakable charm of the original 2011 collection. While the term holy grail is often reserved for the rarest treasures in LEGO collecting, this set certainly has many of the qualities that make an early NINJAGO release so desirable: historical significance within the theme, strong nostalgic appeal and increasing difficulty in finding a well-preserved example.

A wonderful opportunity to acquire an original first-generation LEGO NINJAGO fortress with factory-sealed contents, representing the beginning of a LEGO universe that continues to captivate fans around the world.
