This is a finely cast Japanese bronze incense burner. The lid features an openwork design with radiating vents, topped by a finial in the form of an auspicious lion—rendered with a dynamic, fierce, and lifelike posture. The sides of the vessel are adorned with handles shaped like dragons, their bodies depicted with fluid yet powerful lines. The background is densely chased with a pattern of undulating waves, while the four sides of the body feature recessed panels containing relief carvings of birds and flora—such as a bird perched near a pine tree under the moon, or a golden pheasant amidst plum blossoms—all composed with elegant artistry and a rich, three-dimensional quality. The rim is encircled by intricate bands of key-fret and *ruyi* motifs, executed with meticulous precision. The piece rests on three long, tapered legs, lending it a sense of stability and dignified poise.
