A bronze figure of Buddha Akshobhya, Tibet, 15th-16th century The Buddha sits in vajraparyankasana on a double lotus base with a beaded upper rim and broad petals. His right hand reaches down in bhumisparsha mudra, calling the earth to witness his enlightenment, and his left hand rests in his lap. A vajra lies on the lotus seat in front of him. He wears a sanghati draped over the left shoulder, with finely incised floral borders. On the back, the robe is engraved with the patchwork panels of the monastic robe. The face has a calm, slightly smiling expression, with an urna on the forehead, long earlobes and tight curls rising to an ushnisha topped with a finial. The base is sealed with a copper consecration plate incised with a crossed vajra (vishvavajra) inside a radiating floral scroll. Good provenance.
