antique French Maxant Recording Barograph – Paris, France, c. 1930s
In excellent condition – No reserve.
A beautiful and highly collectible French mechanical recording barograph by Léon Maxant, Paris, distributed under the original Ets. Maxant nameplate, 38 Rue Belgrand, Paris.
This impressive precision meteorological instrument continuously records atmospheric pressure variations onto a rotating paper chart drum. Its sophisticated mechanical construction features a multi-capsule aneroid pressure-sensing assembly, an intricate lever and recording mechanism, and a clockwork-driven chart drum.
The instrument is presented in an elegant, warm-toned wooden cabinet with glazed viewing panels on all sides and a hinged top, allowing an excellent view of the finely engineered mechanism. The original brass winding key is included.
The original manufacturer's markings, including the Made in France stamp, anchor emblem and serial number 341106, are clearly visible on the metal baseplate. The original Ets. Maxant Paris dealer's plaque is also present.
A particularly attractive example of French scientific and technical craftsmanship, combining precision engineering with timeless cabinetmaking. An excellent collector's piece and a real eye-catcher for a study, library, office or collection of antique scientific instruments.
