Saturated colors with stunning geometric motifs on this beautiful tribal antique Moghan runner, originating from the Moghan plains on the southeastern edge of the Caucasus near the Karabagh border. Dating from the late 19th century, the dyes are from the 1880-1890 period of weaving. With natural ivory wool, madder reds, deep indigo blues and beautiful pale blues and greens. Four octagonal "Memling" gul - named after the famous painter. (Hans Memling, Flemish painter 1430-0494 who painted this pattern) White ground edge with shamdan-mashaal motif, fire and fire torch. Thousands of years old motif - Zoroastrian faith. The representation of fire as the primary element. From which everything comes. The torch and flames reinforce this primary belief. Moghan Kazak weavings will often use this repeating latch hook motifs and bold geometric designs. All of which can be seen on this exciting tribal runner. Of course, the Flemish painter did not invent this motif, but the name derives from his use of it as part of the interior of the painting in his depictions of the Madonna. This also shows that fine oriental rugs were known and highly valued by contemporary Dutch citizens and Europe as early as the 14th century. This kind of gul can be found in Anatolian, Caucasian, Shasavan and Central Asian rugs. In Caucasian rugs it is called a Moghan gul and in Central Asian rugs it has local names. Condition report: Condition wise it has a soft wool pile on 100% of this runner. Overall condition is very good for this 130 year old piece. No losses to the ends or damage. Beautiful wool dyed with natural vegetable dyes, these are deeper, fuller shades than later synthetic dyes. Original borders and headboards. The white/brown twisted fringes are completely intact and complete. It has not been restored or repaired anywhere, it does not need any repairs, it is exceptionally in perfect condition. Piece from around 1890. Note: There are no darker parts on the carpet's left borders. The pictures were taken outdoors in sunny weather, so in many pictures the left borders of the carpet are cast by the shadow of the thickness of the carpet. The carpet is in perfect condition, it has not been restored anywhere.
