Toraja Buffalo Tomb door from the Toraja tribe, Sulawesi Teak Wood Traditional Toraja tomb door, known as aluk to dolo, the toraja peole considered the water buffalo (kepala kerbau) as their primary auspicious animal totem. These animals were sacrificed at several funerals to accompany the dead to the next stage. This door represents the level of tribal sculpture, due both to its purity of form and its deep patina from age.
