After All was not so much a band as a group of musicians united under the idea of a one-off concept album. The concept itself is vague, although it is widely agreed that the group wanted to combine some of the newest sounds of the time to create something entirely unique, which I think they largely succeeded in doing. This album is not as consistently good as some of the best psychedelic records I have ever listened to, but it has a number of songs that immediately struck me as strong. The opener, and for me the strongest song on the entire album, “Intangible She” goes through countless changes over a 7-minute span, each one more interesting than the last. The result is what can only be described as a perfect piece of psychedelia, blending elements of jazz rock and progressive rock in a way similar to Felt, a masterpiece in its own right. The singer's deep vocal tones provide a kind of Morrison-esque tone, while the organ has an impeccable sound. The lyrics themselves are surreal and almost nonsensical, but I think they really transport you to the world the music paints. These highlights continue with “Nothing Left To Do,” but with the addition of some great vocal harmonies and a more jazzy feel. The album is at the top of the list at the end of the day, although I don't think the album has any bad songs either. If it weren't for the first half, I don't think I would like this album as much as I did, but I would still think it was good. If I had to pick a worst song, it would be “Now What Are You Looking For,” which wasn't bad, but it was the least interesting of the bunch. If you want really enjoyable psychedelic jazz rock with progressive tendencies, I think you'll find the first half of this record very enjoyable, and I doubt you'd hate the rest. I want to emphasize that I didn't hate the rest of the songs; in fact, many of them are quite good, they just don't live up to the expectations set by the first side. Overall, I would give “After All” an EIGHT out of ten. Favorite song: “Intangible She” This vinyl is in EX condition. Cover is VG+, spine is reasonable. damage to outer sleeve from age corners small tear visible in photos Vinyl has been washed and cover has been cleaned and is like new.
