Very rare and Intricate Handmade Buddhist Tantric Gilt- Bronze Skulls and Demon Heads Mala Garland from Tibet. This interesting and rare ceremonial mala garland heads attached to cotton nd gilded thread at end of the top of garland to tied it up and organic cotton brocade panels. This garland adornment was worn by Buddhist dancers / monks during ceremonies honoring Mahakala, the heads representing vanquished demons and Citipati skulls. The heads are hollow with openwork mouths, fanged teeth, and repousse and chased details painted with black, lacquer red, and gold gilding. Some faces are snarling, some have eyes popping out and drooping from the sockets. Despite their intense and grim appearance, the skulls and the distended eyeballs symbolize impermanence, death, and wisdom- as well as the various organs, tissues, and bones that make up the five senses.
