葛饰北斋《浅草本愿寺》富士山三十六景 日本木版画 - Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) - 日本 - Edo Period (1600-1868)

Titel: Asakusa Honganji Temple Artist: Katsushika Hokusai Size: ca 39 x 26 cm Series: 36 Views Of Mount Fuji Material: Echizen Kizuki Hōsho Publisher: Kato-Hanga-Kenkyujyo (Katō Print Institute ) Date: 1960s Katō Print Institute, the renowned shin hanga publisher, released a limited edition of 150 sets of Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji. The prints in the set display excellent quality and perfect registration. A distinctive feature of this edition is the use of imported chemical dye, Prussian blue. In the additional ten prints, black ink is used for the key block, while Prussian blue is used for the other thirty-six prints. Together, they offer an authentic representation of how the originals from Edo looked on Hōsho paper. About the print Most of the scene is rendered in Prussian Blue, with red used sparingly for the kites, figures, and clouds, and black for the fire lookout tower. Hokusai exaggerated the temple roof’s size, making the workers appear unusually small. Though the proportions are unrealistic, the bold composition is striking.
