Byôbu 屏风(折叠屏风) - 金箔、漆木、丝绸、纸张 - 日本 - 江户时代(十八世纪)。

A splendid medium-sized six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) featuring a Kanô School painting depicting a scene from the life of the Ming Huang Emperor 明皇 and his beloved consort Yang Guifei 楊貴妃. The composition captures the noble concubine Yang Guifei seated gracefully in the garden of a Chinese pavilion, surrounded by attendants and children presenting her with trays of delicacies and treasures laid before her on an ornate table. The closest attendant offers her the fabled Peach of Immortality, while the surrounding scene reveals a tranquil yet lively setting with flowing river waters, distant mountains, and a glimpse into the sumptuous interior of the imperial quarters. Enveloped by cloud banks of gold leaf. Yang Yuhuan 楊玉環 (719–756), better known as Yang Guifei, was the favoured consort of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang dynasty. Celebrated as one of the Four Beauties of ancient China, her story has inspired countless works of art and literature across East Asia. Executed in mineral pigments and ink on mulberry paper with delicate gold-leaf clouds. The painting is bordered by two refined silk brocade bands: a slender ecru inner border and a broader olive green outer frame. And encased in a black lacquered wooden frame with finely engraved gilt metal fittings. Period: Japan –Edo period (18th century). The protective frame was expertly and expensively refurbished at a later (more recent) date in Japan. A highly skilled craftsmanship that requires a lot of expertise and knowledge. Dimensions: Total width 315.8 cm (2 × 54.5 cm, 4 × 51.7 cm); Height 141 cm Considering its age, in a very good restored condition with expected traces of wear consistent with age on both sides. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference. This folding screen is ideal for mounting flat on a wall and presenting as a single work of art. When shipped, we will include a certificate of authenticity.
