Val Saint Lambert (VSL) "Pietro" Vase – Joseph Simon (1926) – Ruby Red Cut-to-Clear Crystal – Heavyweight
A magnificent and extremely heavy Art Deco crystal vase, model "Pietro," produced by the renowned Val Saint Lambert (VSL) manufactory in Belgium. This celebrated design was created by Joseph Simon and is referenced in the factory's Cristaux de Fantaisie catalogue of 1926.
This piece exemplifies the luxurious 'Cut-to-Clear' technique, for which Val Saint Lambert is world-famous.
Model: Pietro (designed by Joseph Simon, 1926).
Period: Art Deco (c. 1920s–1930s).
Material: Heavy Lead Crystal (high lead content confirmed by weight).
Colour: Ruby Red (or Cranberry) overlay over clear crystal.
Technique: Overlay Cut-to-Clear. The deep red layer has been meticulously hand-cut with a complex pattern featuring alternating ovals/lenses and vertical facets, exposing the brilliant clear crystal underneath. The complexity of the cutting showcases the highest level of VSL craftsmanship.
Signature: Absence of a visible signature is noted, this is common for pieces of this age, but the model reference is a strong identifier of VSL origin.
Defect: several micro chips, see all pictures to make a informed decision, the pictures are part of the description.
Wear: Visible traces of friction/wear, typically on the base, consistent with a valuable object nearly a century old.
